MAPPING, MANAGEMENT & MONITORING FOR YOUR
VEGETATION PROGRAMS

The Vegetation Tour will
be held on Tuesday and the Seminar will be Wednesday at the West Harvest
Inn, 4025 Albert Street South The Supper Banquet will be 7:00 PM
Tuesday Evening.
REGISTRATION
The registration form
outlines the cost for each function. Please complete the registration
form and return with your payment by Friday, August 29, 2008.
Registrations received after that date are subject to a late
registration fee of $25.00. You may register by phone or email and I
will invoice you immediately.
There is a block of rooms reserved at the West
Harvest Inn under IVMA until August 10, 2008, for arrival September 8
and departure September 10.The room rate is $94.00 per night plus taxes
and any applicable service charges. Please make your own reservations

MONDAY AFTERNOON GOLF
If you want to golf Monday afternoon, please let me
know by August 29 and I will book tee-off times at a Regina golf course,
probably for 1:30 to 2:00 PM. Costs for this activity would be separate
from the tour and seminar.
ABOUT THE TOUR
Registration and coffee will be 7:00 AM to 8:00AM
Tuesday.
The tour will leave from the West Harvest Inn at 8:00AM and return
around 5:00 PM. After the tour there will be an opportunity to socialize
prior to the banquet, courtesy of our sponsors.
WASCANA PARK. Visit the
Native Prairie grasslands and other sites in the park which will
high-light the challenges and objectives associated with Urban Forestry.
INDIAN HEAD SHELTER BELT
CENTRE. We are trying to plan most of our activities at this
location. Things in the planning are a native tree and brush
identification session, shelterbelt vegetation management, an equipment
demonstration and a “hands on” session utilizing GPS to plot and locate
various brush species.

Lunch will be at this site.

Transportation will be on an air-conditioned,
washroom equipped bus.

Remember to wear suitable footwear and bring
raingear.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
National Pesticide Compliance
Programs & Herbicide Re-evaluation Updates
Presented by Bill Maksymetz, Regional Manager PMRA Pesticide
Compliance Programs.
The National Pesticides Compliance Programs are designed to promote and
verify compliance with the Pest Control Products Act through
consultations, inspections, and investigations conducted by Compliance
and Regional operations Division. This Act regulates the importation,
manufacture, sale, and use of control products. These activities are in
coordination with provincial and other federal departments and in
partnerships with stakeholders. The Re-evaluation Management Directorate
within PMRA is responsible for making re-evaluation decisions on
products registered under the Pest Control Products Act. Under the
PMRA’s re-evaluation program, pesticides are being reviewed to determine
if their use continues to be acceptable under today’s standards for
health and environmental protection. Re-evaluation updates will be
provided on some of the herbicides suggested by the IVMA.
GPS Primer – What is it? How
Can It Be Used In Vegetation Management? Presented by James
Matthewson; Forester, Manitoba Hydro.
Ever wondered what GPS is all about? What kind of GPS to buy? Or
better yet, how do I get the Information I collect out of it and onto a
map? Learn how GPS is being used in vegetation management at Manitoba
Hydro and how you can incorporate it into your work and play.
Urban Forestry Challenges on
the Prairies
Presented by Darcy Schenk; Manager of Forestry &
Horticulture, Wascana Park
In this presentation D’Arcy will challenge you to think of the
Urban Forest in a new way and will cause you to look up to see what the
trees are telling us about what is happening above and below ground. All
plant life is precious and needs our attention if we are to maintain an
environment that future generations are proud of and can live in. We
need to put our resources, both human and financial, towards this end to
continue the way of life we call ours.
Weed Management Areas
Presented by Nancy Gray; Invasive Plant Species Group
Planning Advisor, SARM
Nancy will speak on developing a plan and a team approach to
managing invasive plants. Working on a plan with a collaborated effort
is the only way to eradicate or control many invasive plants. This
presentation will show how they are trying to develop plans and areas in
Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan’s Most Wanted Weeds
Presented by Chet Neufeld; Executive Director, Native Plant Society
of Saskatchewan
Chet will identify 12 of Saskatchewan’s worst weeds. He will also
highlight management options and best management practices for each
species.
Roadside Application Equipment
and Application Records
Presented by Dugan Petersen; Sales Engineer, TeeJet
Technologies
Dugan will present the following items:
1) Roadside Application equipment used around North America as well as
Roadside Application methods.
2) Roadside Application equipment setup including GPS receivers and
background maps.
3) Application recording and Application records 4) Will display a
Simulated Roadside application.
There will also be a small trade show at the hotel
after the tour and during the seminar where you will be able to talk
with the suppliers and contractors.
