INDUSTRIAL HERBICIDE SUPERVISORS/APPLICATORS
Are you highly motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, don't mind working out of town and enjoy the outdoors? Do you like the thought of being your own boss and the opportunity to work extra hours with above average earning potential? Davey Tree Services is a full service vegetation management company serving the Oil & Gas, Electric Utility, Pipeline, Forestry and Construction Industries and is now hiring for the upcoming summer.
This challenging position entails applying herbicides with the purpose of managing brush and noxious weeds on facilities, power line right-of-ways and pipeline right-of-ways. The application of herbicides varies from selective backpack treatments to large scale foliar treatments utilizing 1-ton trucks and /or heavy equipment. All of our work is out of town making it necessary for our crews to live in hotels for extended periods of time. Although you will be expected to live out of town for extended periods of time you must also have a place to stay in close proximity to the City of Edmonton because of our dependency on the weather. Crews will be self-monitored, self-reliant and self-managed, which requires great responsibility and an extremely motivated attitude. The successful candidates will become part of a team of professionals that work close together to provide exceptional service while maintaining the highest commitment to safety and performance.
Although no experience is necessary, as we will train the right candidates, any safety certificates or documented training such as; air brakes, a class three driver's license, herbicide applicators certificate, H2S, WHMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, ATV training and heavy equipment operating experience are definite assets. Furthermore, a class five driver's license with a clean record, a good attitude, punctuality and the ability to work with a group is required. Love of the outdoors, a flexible schedule and few or no summer commitments are a must. This job comes with a lot of freedom that in turn comes with even more responsibility.
Wages are designated according to experience, tax-free living allowance is paid for out of town work ($49.34 per day), hotel costs are covered by Davey Tree and overtime is paid at time and a half. Again no experience is necessary, although a definite asset, and all training is paid. In addition Davey provides all safety and protective clothing needed except for CSA approved steel toed footwear. As most of these positions are seasonal, the majority of our summer crews are made up of students. Many of our students return for multiple seasons as their individual earning potential and level of responsibility increase dramatically with each year.
